Abstract
Abstract
The Mid-Autumn Festival is a major traditional festival of China and an important component of Chinese culture. The Mid-Autumn culture is intimately related to the culture that is derived from the civilization built upon the broader Han character cultural region. Hitherto studies relating traditional festivals and the Han cultural region are scarce. The purpose of this study is to examine the origins of the Mid-Autumn Festival, its cultural distinctiveness and role in the Han cultural region, the dissemination of the festival and influence, and its cultural and economic significance in the contemporary period. The Mid-Autumn festival is gaining increasing importance as a cultural festival and, equally significant, is its gathering influence as a cultural event that is gaining economic clout in the life of modern-day China.
